The wrestling “post-season” is about to begin this Friday with the OIA Wrestling Dual Championships.  The event will be held at Moanalua High School starting at 5:30p.

Both the junior varsity and varsity squads for boys and girls will compete.

For the Boys, Kaiser and Pearl City claim the top seeds for the East and West respectively.  The Cougar wrestlers have an undefeated record of 10-0.

The girls leaderboard shows Kahuku and Kapolei holding the #1 seeds.

With the Red Raider and hurricane boys teams holding the #2 seeds, both schools could feasibly take the titles for each gender.

Obviously Farrington and Campbell will have something to say about that.

View attached documents for the CURRENT TEAM STANDINGS and the schedule for the OIA DUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on Friday.

OIA Boys Soccer Playoffs Start Today

January 22, 2008

David Kawada – Content Editor
dkawada@digitalsports.com

It is the boys turn in the OIA to feel the excitement of the playoffs.  Today through Saturday, the league soccer playoffs begin in the Red and White Divisions.  A total of 6 school sites will be used throughout the playoffs leading up to Saturday’s Championship Games at Mililani High School.

Digital Sports will have multi-media coverage of the playoffs.  See Below for the playoff schedule.

Since 1995, Mililani has dominated boys soccer for the OIA.   The Trojans have won 9 of the last 12 Titles, including 5 in a row between 2002-06.  Kapolei broke that streak last year being only one of the 3 schools to upend Mililani during this 12-year run.  The Hurricanes naturally would like to defend their title and start a dynasty of their own.

JROTC Pearl Harbor Challenge

January 19,
2008

David Kawada – Content Editor

WATCH:   Video Interviews of Kalaheo Female and Male Teams Below

A total of
14 schools competed in this 1st-year event at Richardson Complex at
Pearl Harbor.  The JROTC cadets formed 34
teams and competed in several events testing physical conditioning, aquatic
skill, and how fast you can climb a tree.

“You can’t
really train for that,” said Linda Naki, coordinator of the event and JROTC
instructor at Campbell High School, the host school.

The events
were an obstacle course, physical fitness, water rafting, 2-mile run, tug o
war, and the popular coconut tree climbing.
The Hawaii National Guard provided the tree in which cadets needed to
climb as fast as they could and hit a buzzer at the top.

“We normally
have the Army Training Challenge.  But because
so many troops are deployed, that was cancelled,” said senior Darren Taylor,
the student commander of the Campbell JROTC.
PFC Taylor is actually in the
Hawaii National Guard as part of the College First Program, as the minimum age
is 17 years.

Awards went
to the team winners in each event plus an overall winner.  The awards were presented by Captain Michael
Malone from the US Navy.
